Magical realism meets queer family history in Bestiary by poet-turned-novelist, K-Ming Chang. The protagonist, Daughter, becomes the embodiment of her mother’s fantastical tale of a woman possessed by the spirit of a tiger. With the help of her equally unique crush, Ben, the girl next-door, Daughter uncovers the secrets of the women in her family and changes the course of their lives.

“Three generations of Taiwanese American women are haunted by the myths of their homeland in this spellbinding, visceral debut about one family’s queer desires, violent impulses, and buried secrets.”
